So the standard speakers in my dad's Silverado were pretty much rotted away from, presumably, age and constant vibration. He caught some Infinity units on sale and got all four speakers for like $140. Not a bad deal. He's keeping the stock head unit though.
Now comes installation.
Step one: Remove crappy old GM speakers
Which also meant (obviously) removing the door cards.
We only broke two clips! Both on the top of the extended cab door panel. Well, actually, I only broke two clips cause I removed that panel...
Step two: Install new speakers all around, which mean drilling new holes in the doors
So shiny and new! You could also adjust the tweeters in them, so we made sure we did that. Oh, and tested to make sure they actually worked .
Step three: Reassembly
The front door panels on this truck are a pain to get back on. Seriously.
Don't look half bad. I like how you can see the bits of metal on them through the covers.
They sound a million times better than the old ones did. Everything's more crisp and comes out a lot cleaner. My dad now wants to put a sub-woofer under the back seat though.
As of right now we only have the passenger side put back together. We're waiting for the epoxy to set on the broken clips on the driver's side rear door panel and the clip that holds the window and mirror controls in on the driver's door.

When I bought my Mustang back in 2005 the first thing I did was have the speakers swapped out for some Infinity stuff. There was a huge difference.

I do love installing in factory locations, so tidy
